Dr.Jart+ Cream Mist Moisturiser

I'm sure you are tired of hearing me say that I have perpetually dry skin on this blog but I'm here to tell the truth, not to sugar coat the hardships. The struggle is real.

For a while I was having issues with layering my makeup because my skin was so dry. I could get my foundation on fine but when it came to adding any concealer or blusher, it didn't tend to sit well on my skin and I struggled to prevent my makeup from pilling.

Enter the Dr.Jart+ Cream Mist. I had wanted to try a hydrating mist for a while and this one seemed to have good reviews on ASOS so I bought it on a whim hoping it would solve all my life's problems. Ok, maybe just the dry skin issue.

This product works wonders. I spray it on top of my foundation before I put any concealer or powder products on and it works perfectly to add a bit of extra hydration to ensure my makeup sits nicely on my skin. On the first spray, it tends to come out quite patchy instead of being a fine mist. To stop me from ending up with big splodges of cream on one side of my face, I always spray the first spray onto my arm and then do 3 or 4 on my face.

It's also a great product for those days when you are wearing makeup all day and want to refresh it at some point. A few spritzes of this before you go in with any other makeup just makes it easier to apply and stops it looking cakey.

I imagine this would be great for a holiday too - pop it in the fridge and use it in an evening when getting ready to go out. It would be so refreshing!

It's around £26 for 110ml and you can buy it from a huge selection of retailers including Selfridges, Space NK, ASOS.

L'oreal Sugar Scrubs

I love L'oreal's skin care range at the moment. I have tried every face wash/face scrub/face mask under the sun and I have never loved any of them like I love L'oreal's products. Last year I started using their Pure Clay Face Scrub and Face Mask and and haven't looked back since - the scrub is perfect for exfoliating dry skin and the mask is great for a mid-week pick-me-up for your skin.

When I saw the sugar scrubs in the shop I was really intrigued and, as always, really indecisive about which to try. In the end I went for the Clear Scrub (above) and the Nourish Scrub. I decided to try the Clear Scrub first and I've enjoyed using it that much that I haven't even dipped into the other one yet! It smells lovely - sweet and fruity - and is quite gel-like in consistency. It also says that you can use it as a lip scrub and as someone that suffers from very  dry lips, I was sold almost instantly.

Ingredients: three types of sugar: white sugar, blonde sugar and brown sugar to buff, moisturise and strengthen. It also contains lemongrass and peppermint essential oils to tackle blackheads.

Application: it's best to apply this scrub to clean, dry skin. I usually smooth it over my cheeks, nose and forehead. on initial application. You'll notice it starts to heat up as soon as you start handling it so I tend to leave it for 30 seconds or so whilst the heat cools down. Then I run my fingers under the warm water and massage the scrub into my face. It feels quite coarse when you begin but the water helps the sugars dissolve and once you can't feel the sugar anymore, rinse the residue away with some warm water.

Result: I adore this product. It advises using it three times a week and I don't really want to exceed their recommended usage but I would use this every day if I could. My skin feels really fresh and clean and moisturised afterwards; the result is visible straight away. I can't say I've noticed it make much difference to my blackheads but the way it makes my skin look and feel makes up for it anyway.

You can buy this for 6.65 from Superdrug and it's currently 1/3 off!

I can't wait to try the other scrubs to see if they live up to this one!
Have you tried any of the L'oreal Sugar Scrubs yet?

Bilou Shower Foam (Review)

The Body Shop has always been my go-to place for shower gel. Their scents are so strong and beautiful and it always lingers in the bathroom for ages after you've used it. Satsuma has always been my favourite and has been the only shower gel I've regularly re-purchased. That hasn't ever stopped my trying others though!

I had seen Bilou shower foams online before (they are all over instagram) and had been intrigued for ages. As soon as I knew they were in superdrug stores I checked every single time I went into town to see if they had any in stock (they never did...). When I wasn't looking for them, as is usually the case, I came across them in a fancy new Superdrug and bought one straight away. They had a few different scents, not a massive choice, but I settled for Tasty Donut. How can anything that claims to smell like a tasty donut be bad? It can't, right?

It smells incredible; sweet and fruity, like strawberry icing. It's obviously a foam but not like a Foamburst foam - it's really light and creamy and soft. It's hard to describe quite how luxurious it feels when you use it. The best thing about it is that the smell lingers on your skin for ages after you've used it. I can use it in the shower at 5.30am and still smell it on my skin when it gets to lunchtime. So you can smell like a tasty donut all day long

The whole Bilou brand is super cute and completely vegan, so if you're an ethical shopper, they are worth keeping in mind. They cost 3.99 a can from Superdrug and come in a few different fragrances: pink melon, tasty donut, cotton candy and fizzy berry.

I can't wait to try more! Have you tried anything from Bilou?

Review: L'oreal Detox Clay Mask

I don't know about you but I hate Sundays. I always have. There's just no way to beat that back to school/back to work feeling. Thankfully the sun is shining today which already makes everything feel a little bit better. But I always welcome anything that can make Sunday a little bit brighter.

I've never tried a face mask that I've really loved until I found L'oreals Pure Clay Detox Mask. I've never really been taken with L'oreal's skin care in the past but I'd heard really good things about these masks. Of course it took me a solid 20 minutes in the shop to decide which mask I wanted but in the end I though the detox mask would probably be the best fit.

It's easy to use - layer up the mask and wait about 10 minutes for it to dry. I use a mask brush from Avon which is much less messy and fiddly than using your fingers. The mask lightens in colour as it dries so you can easily tell when it's ready to be washed off.

The first time I used this mask my skin looked so much better afterwards. It looked and felt smoother, cleaner and clearer too. The instructions recommend using this a couple of times a week but I just use it as and when I need to give my skin a boost. It really makes a noticeable difference to my skin and believe me does my skin need some extra TLC.

You can find all three of the L'oreal clay masks here. I'd love the try the brightening mask next!

Lemon & Green Tea Face Steam

My skin has been really bad lately and while I can cope with it most of the time, there are days when it just really gets me down. I've been back and forth to the doctors but haven't found anything that helped. I've tried all the usual - drink more water, eat less sugar, exercise more. I've tried a hundred different beauty products targeted at reducing acne. Nothing seems to work!

I remembered seeing a piece Liz Earle did on the TV last year about the benefits of doing a face steam. She recommended using all different kinds of essential oils for all different kinds of purposes - rosemary & tea tree for acne, lavender for sensitive skin, rose for dry skin. It sounded worth trying. Why not? I've tried pretty much everything else going!

The only things I had to hand were lemon and green tea. Which was fine by me, apparently Miranda Kerr swears by a green tea steam and her skin is amazing

All you need to do is pour some boiling water into a bowl. Then add whatever it is you want to use - I used both lemon and green tea. I put the tea bag in first and then squeezed the juice from half a lemon. I read it was best to let it sit for 5-10 minutes so that the heat is bearable when it comes to putting your face over it. When it's ready, drape a towel over your head and hold your face about 30cm away from the water for as long as it's hot. Afterwards splash your face with cold water to close pores.

I've done this a few times over the past couple of weeks and I love how refreshed my skin feels afterwards. It looks much less irritated and feels much cleaner too. The first time I did it my mum commented on how much better my skin looked so I thought maybe this was something worth doing on a regular basis. I think I'll try get my hands on some tea tree oil next and see if that works just as well!

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Concentrate

When the Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask first came out, it was plastered all over my favourite blogs and youtube videos. I heard people raving about it for months until I caved in and bought it. It was a product I loved immediately. I loved how my soft and healthy my skin would feel in a morning - it gave me a great foundation for my makeup! You can read my thoughts on that product here on my blog.

When The Body Shop announced that they were releasing more products in the Drops of Youth range, I knew it was something worth looking into. So the next time I was in a store I did just that. I browsed the Drops of Youth section for what felt like hours until I feel decided on the serum. I've used a couple of serums before but none that I could really rave about. This one was different. I use it on a morning and evening under my moisturiser and it makes a massive difference to how healthy and fresh my skin feels.

Having loved the serum so much too, I later went back and bought the day cream. Using all of the products together has done wonders for my skin. I struggle with acne and the medication I use for it makes my skin really dry. Anything I can get that provides a huge surge of moisture is a winner in my book and these products do just that.

It's very rare that you feel or see the effects of a product straight away but within one day of using these products, my skin felt so much smoother and looked so much healthier. Even though they are designed as an anti-aging product, I don't see anything wrong with using them because of the other benefits they provide.

I cannot recommend these products highly enough and if you're something to invest in your skincare, try the Drops of Youth range from The Body Shop. Next on my list is the eye concentrate!

Skin Pampering: Origins Active Charcoal Face Mask

I've recently switched up my skincare routine and my skin looks and feels a thousand times better than it has done in quite a few months. I've been trying different cleansers and moisturisers and I seem to have found a product selection that is working for my skin. One of my new skincare loves is this face mask from Origins - the Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. These dark, cold evenings are perfect for a bit of a pamper and there's nothing like pulling out your favourite face mask and grabbing a good read to relax for a while.

I bought this after my birthday when I went a bit mad on the Origins website. It came as a gift set which included three other masks - the Ginzing Refreshing face mask, Drink Up Intensive overnight mask and the Out of Trouble 10 Minute mask. The Active Charcoal mask was the first I tried because I'd read such good things about it online, it seems to be one of the Origins products that every blogger raves about.

It's not often I'm impressed by a face mask. More often than not they don't seem to really do anything and don't seem worth using. This is a completely different story. After I used this for the first time my skin felt really clean and refreshed. I try to use it at least once a week, usually towards the end of the week when late nights/early mornings are making my skin look tired. It just gives it the little pick-me-up it seems to need. Plus, my skin looks clearer than it has done in a while. Bonus!

I'd definitely recommend this face mask to anyone who likes to spend a little bit more on their skin care. You can buy the full size for £23 from the Origins website

Origins Skincare: First Impressions

Last week I turned 22. Yep, I promise you I really am 22 years old. As has become tradition now, in the weeks leading up to my birthday I started browsing some of the beauty hotspots online (Space NK, Origins, Feelunique) and listed some of the products that I've been wanting to try for a while but haven't been able to without sacrificing the money I'd done so well to save for a car. Origins was my first pit stop and I managed to narrow down my choices to a couple of blogger favourites as well as some of my own 'just give them a go' choices.

Original Skin Renewal Serum | £15 Now that the sun has well and truly nestled itself away for the winter, it was time to invest in some skincare that would keep my skin healthy and moisturised in the face of the cold weather. It is designed to de-stress and smooth skin as well as helping it to keep it's glow and shrink pores. I've been using this under my moisturising in a morning and evening and I love how smooth my skin feels lately.

Make a Difference Plus Rejuvenating Moisturiser | £35 This is the moisturiser that I've been using on top of the serum. It's got a bit of an odd smell, quite medicinal. It's easy to get used to though and after a while I stopped noticing it. Despite the smell, this might just be the best moisturiser I've ever used. A lot of the time I struggle with combimation/dry skin but my skin has been relatively well behaved since using this moisturiser and my makeup sits really nicely on top of it too. It's a winner in my book.

Mask Marvels | £30 Face masks are a really simple and easy way to give your skin a bit of a pick-me-up. I couldn't decide which mask to go for but found a set that had four of the best Origins masks, each 50ml. I've tried the Active Charcoal mask and really liked it. My skin looked and felt really clean afterwards. Hopefully after a few more uses there will be more of a noticeable difference. I've always tried the Out of Trouble 10 minute mask but I didn't like that one so much. It stung slightly (which is usually a good sign) but I didn't think that it did all that much. I might give it another go but I don't hold much hope for it. I am looking forward to trying to Ginzing Refreshing face mask and the Drink Up overnight mask. I'll let you know how I get on with those!

Have you tried any of these Origins products? What are your skincare must-haves?

Rituals 24 Hour Hydrating Cream

I'm always on the hunt for a really good moisturiser. Since it's a product we all use everyday, I think it's important to get it right. I've tried my fair share of high streets brands and a couple of higher end brands but I haven't yet found my perfect product. I always try to mix up my moisturisers depending on the season. I use a more heavy-duty product in the winter when my skin needs an extra drink but for Summer and the transitional seasons, I'm still struggling to find the one.

That being said, I do love the Rituals 24 Hour Hydrating Gel Cream. I got this as a sample when I bought a scrub from Rituals in Amsterdam (which is AMAZING, by the way, keep an eye open for that review) so it was only enough for about four uses. It just about saw me through the weekend but I have to say, it was a pleasure to use.

The gel/cream is a light blue colour and you can tell straight away that the texture is different from an ordinary moisturiser - it's more gel than cream. It soaks in fairly quickly but it leaves the skin feeling smooth and hydrated. My main issue with moisturisers is that they don't always sit well on my skin, so when I go to put a primer on and then my foundation, it ends up looking patchy and uneven. But this didn't do that at all. It sat really well under my primer so my foundation application was a breeze.

The full size 50ml jar costs £26.50 which I think is a bit steep to have as an everyday moisturiser. However I would definitely consider repurchasing this as a birthday treat (to myself, obviously. Does anyone else do that?) I'm beginning to really love Rituals as a brand, they have some lovely products and the quality is good too. They give you what you expect for the price you pay.

What is your go-to moisturiser? Do you have any recommendations for me?

The Body Shop Japanese Camellia Cream

I have a terrible habit of going into The Body Shop when I have absolutely no money and just testing everything. I usually find a product I love and can't get out of my mind so I always, without fail, end up going back at some point to buy it. I did it with the Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask and I did it again with the Japanese Camellia Cream. Part of the larger Spa of the World range, the Camellia Cream claims to be 'a rich body cream with a light, velvety texture.' (TBS) It is designed to moisturise as well as relax and I can just imagine that this product is going to be  a staple on a home pamper evening.

Inspired by the Japanese Camellia flower, the scent is subtle and soft and very feminine. I'd even go so far as to say classy. The Camellia scent isn't at all floral like you would expect, which is good for me because I'm not the biggest lover of floral scents. It just smells so good. The great thing about it is that the scent lingers for ages after you've used it. I tested a little bit on my arm one morning and hours later I was still catching the scent whenever there was a light breeze (sounds pretty dreamy) and shoving my arm under Callum's nose saying 'doesn't it just smell amazing?' (not so dreamy.)

The next best thing about The Body Shop's latest addition to the moisturising family is the texture of it. It's really light and fluffy. Think a Mr Whippy, only a non-edible version that you smear all over your body. I fear it has been released at the wrong time of year because it feels too light to be a winter moisturiser. Hopefully it will do the job for the transition between seasons and I'm really looking forward to properly digging into it now that my blog photos have been taken. See that self-control?

The only thing I'm not happy with is the packaging. It looks good, don't get me wrong. I love how different it is from everything else that The Body Shop sell but it's so impractical for travelling. I still have a weekend trip to Barcelona to come this year and I was hoping to take this with me. However the hefty 350ml tub is mega heavy and bulky. I will probably resort to transferring some to a smaller tub because I just can't bear the idea of leaving it behind.

Of course it does the job of moisturising pretty well too.

It does cost £23 but definitely worth it as a gift or a treat! Have you tried any of The Body Shop's Spa of the World range?

The Body Shop Bouncy Sleeping Mask

There are some products that hit the shelves that all beauty lovers grab at straight away. As soon as I caught wind of The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask (oh, what a mouthful) I knew it was a product that deserved first class seating in my drawer of skin care goodies.

So what is this unnecessarily long-named product, I hear you ask. It is an overnight gel mask that claims to leave skin looking smooth, refreshed and replenished. It employs the help of Edelweiss Stem Cells (for cell renewal) which I can only imagine aids the 'youthful' and 'restorative' aspect that this product claims to provide.

I needed to invest in a good night cream, or something similar, and I like the idea of a product that does the hard labour through the night. I feel like it makes my morning skin care routine that much easier by providing me with a base that is already moisturised and smooth. And I am in love with this product.

It's an odd texture, which will be the first thing anyone tells you about this product. If you've ever had a memory foam mattress or pillow then think about that.. only in gel form. Did that make sense? No probably not. But all you need to know is that you get a little spatula inside the box as well as a massive 90ml glass jar of product so it makes application a thousand times easier. Scoop a little bit of the product, with the spatula, onto your finger tips and massage into the skin. Don't worry, it's meant to feel a bit tacky until your skin soaks it up. The Body Shop website do a lovely guide on how to make the most out of this product with a good massage technique. You can find that here.

The Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask has glowing 5 star reviews on The Body Shop website and I can promise you that it's worth the investment. You can find this product in TBS stores or online and it costs £24. It's a steep price tag but with the 90ml jar it will last you forever (okay, maybe not quite forever but a very long time at least.) Like I say, it's the price you have to pay for helping your skin look it's very best.

If you need anymore convincing, this product is Caroline Hirons approved (the Queen of skin care) so give it a go if you want a product that genuinely fulfils it's promises.

Have you tried this product? Did you love it as much as I did?

Nivea Daily Essentials Day Cream

If you're looking for a new summer skin cream, let me be the one to tell you that this cream from Nivea is probably one to be avoided. Nivea is not a brand that I normally opt for. My few skincare items are higher end (the price you have to pay for better looking skin!) so I don't often dabble in high street skin care. That being said I have tried one of the Nivea primers before and the heavily perfumed scent of it put me off straight away. So already I don't have a good track record with Nivea products.

While I was browsing the shop shelves, I thought this product was just what I wanted. It claims to be light, perfect for the day, and contains SPF, which was the main thing I was concerned about. It also claims to be for normal and combination skin (another check!) So why didn't I like it?

I don't often do negative reviews but I didn't feel there was anything good to say about this product. To say it's a day cream, it's incredibly thick and quite dry. I didn't feel like the formula soaked into my skin very well and it didn't leave my skin feeling soft and moisturised. Instead it made it a tiny bit more difficult to work in my foundation on the top. It's not a comfortable wearing moisturiser and it's definitely not one I'd describe at 'light.' Safe to say it is now floating around in one of my makeup/skincare draws and I'm back to using my trusty Origins moisturiser.

It's always a shame to have a disappointing experience with a product but maybe I'll go back to this one day and give it another go. If you want to check out prices and reviews (which are a very mixed bag!) you can do here.

Have you tried any of the Nivea moisturisers?

Skin Brightening Products

We all want to know the secret behind bright, healthy looking skin and whilst I can't promise to offer you a complexion that resembles Zoella's, I can offer you some tips and recommendations to help you on your way. From creams to highlighters, there are plenty of products out there that claim to aid you in your efforts to brighter skin but I've chosen some of my favourites to share with you all today.

To start your morning, use Soap & Glory's Face Massage Mini Mitt. You can either use it on it's own or with a cleanser/face wash. I like to use it with my regular face scrub (Superdrug's Deep Action Daily Scrub). The instructions tell you to massage upwards in circular motions to help stimulate the skin and helps increase blood/oxygen flow to help your skin look brighter.

The next step in my routine is to use the Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting Moisturiser as well as the Origins Ginzing Eye Cream which claims to brighten and de-puff. The moisturiser is lovely - it smells so good and feels really refreshing on the skin. Again, massage into the skin in circular motions. The eye cream, well, I can't talk highly enough about it! You can see results as soon as you put it on and its pearlescent quality means it works a treat if you have dark circles under your eyes (i.e me, always.) You can read my full review of it here.

Makeup-wise, the B. Illuminating Serum is amazing for brightening up your complexion. If that's the sole purpose for using it, put it on without any foundation and it'll give you a lovely looking healthy glow. If you can't part with your foundation, use the Illuminating Serum as a base and work your foundation over the top which will still give you a glow, just more subtle.

If you want to go one step further in brightening your eyes, a little white eyeliner in the corners of your eyes or along your waterline helps to brighten their appearance. I use the Rimmel Soft Kohl Eye Liner because it is just that, soft. So it's good to use on your eye where the skin is a bit more fragile.

What are your favourite products to help brighten your complexion?

Battle of the Hand Creams

A good hand cream is essential in any woman's handbag. Somehow over the past year or so mine have accumulated massively (I blame half of that on my Superdrug discount... Sometimes temptation is just too much! I mean, I really needed all the new release mascaras and hand creams, right?) So today I'm sharing with you some of my favourites!

Boots Botanics All Bright Hand Cream
This is one of the best in terms of value. You get 75ml of product for £2.89 and it comes in a really sturdy tube so it's pretty handbag-proof too. The product itself is lightweight, has a light cream-like smell but nothing overpowering and it is most definitely fast absorbing so it's a good one for those who quickly want rid of that greasy feeling. The only claim that I'm not sold on is the brightening qualities but I'll probably go on living just fine without it.

Superdrug Hand Therapy 2 in 1 Hand & Nail Cream
This one is probably my favourite of the bunch just because it works so well at strengthening my nails and making them look super healthy. Like the Botanics one, the product is lightweight and soaks in pretty quickly. I always spent a bit of extra time with this one massaging it into my nails and by that time the product has soaked in everywhere else. This one is really good value for money at £1.49 for 75ml (if you click the link don't worry about the packaging, the product is still the same).

The Body Shop Frosted Cranberry Hand Cream
This one wins by a long shot on the scent-front. Unfortunately the Frosted Cranberry was limited edition at Christmas but The Body Shop still do a good range which you can check out here (I've got my eyes on the satsuma one). I can't fault the product here either, it's a bit thicker than the others and it feels really luxurious but at £3.50 for 30ml, I'd expect something a bit higher quality. My issue with this is the packaging. If it gets abused by anything heavy at the bottom of my handbag it tends to squeeze the product so when I take off the lid the product just seeps out. What a waste! But oh my, the smell...

Nivea Smooth Nourishing Hand Cream
This is a more heavy duty product for dry hand-related emergencies. It's a thick cream (with a very heavy cream smell) but works well to give a more intense treatment. I bought this one because it was just a handy handbag size which cost £1.50 for 30ml. I like it but don't love it. It's probably my least favourite of the four but for the sake of convenience and nourishment, it gets a spot.

What are your favourite hand creams?

Review: Vitamin E Sugar & Oil Body Scrub

As you may know by now, I was recently chosen to be a Superdrug Insider. This means that I am given the opportunity to review Superdrug products for you as honestly as I can.

This month the SD Insiders were sent a group of cleansing product goodies to review, and what a good looking mass of goodies they were. I'm a fan of Superdrug products because it's not often you get a good price partnered with an equally good product but that's exactly what they offer.

& the Vitamin E range is so good, you're going to want to keep reading.

My favourite from the bunch is the Vitamin E Sugar and Oil Body Scrub. It claims to have "Sugar, Sea Salt and Walnut Shell granules" that exfoliate your skin, mixed with "nourishing Sweet Almond and Grapeseed Oils" that will keep your skin feeling soft and smooth.

Let me tell you, I love this product. I knew from the first use it was a winner. I don't know about you but at this time of year, when the weather is super cold, my skin gets really dry really quickly. And I'm certainly not a fan of sitting around my room in a morning waiting for my moisturiser to soak in before I can put my jeans on without the greasy/sticky feeling. This product is great because not only does it exfoliate, it nourishes your skin too so moisturiser is no longer an absolute necessity.

If you do feel you still want a bit of extra moisture after using this product, try the Vitamin E Dry Oil. It'll make that super smooth and silky feeling last for days! Watch this space for a review on that coming soon.

Don't worry if you're not a fan of harsh scrubs either because the granules in this product are really fine so you can barely feel them at all when you're using it. Another win? I'm chalking that one up.

Have you tried this product yet? What did you think!?

Review: Superdrug Vitamin E Super Balm

First of all, let me apologise for the quality of these photos. My SLR went for a walk and yesterday (when I had enough time and daylight to take some good photos for my blog - typical!) and I couldn't find it! The inconvenient little so and so.

Anyway...

Today I bring you this little pot of goodness. If, like me, you're prone to dry skin then this is a handy little guy to have floating around in your bag, especially during the colder winter months. The Super Balm contains plenty of the nourishing stuff that our skin needs at this time of year - waxes, shea butter, and of course vitamin e.

On first feel the product does appear quite difficult to handle, a bit grainy and hard. But that soon melts away once you've popped it on your skin. You can use it quite literally anywhere - hands, nails, elbows, face, legs, knees. It is super handy to have in your bag, it's the definition of a multi-purpose product.

My favourite way to use it is to warm it up a little bit and rub it into my nails and cuticles, particularly before I paint my nails or after I've taken some nail polish off. It just helps keep my nails lovely and nourished and cared for. It's also handy to have in my pocket at work so when I've finished ripping boxes open I can give my nails a little tlc.

For some great tips on how to make the most of this product, check out this post from Lady From A Tramp who offers some great alternative uses!

You can grab this Super Balm for £3.99 from Superdrug.
